KAKAMEGA COUNTY VACCINATES AGAINST MEASLES RUBELLA (MR)

As Kenya embarks on the war against Measles and Rubella diseases, Kakamega County is on the forefront to actualize this exercise. CEC for Health Services Peninah Mukabane today led residents in launching the seven days exercise at Chenjeni Primary School of Chevaywa Ward in Lugari Sub-County.

Addressing the gathering during the launch of the vaccination, Mrs. Mukabane said that the government targets 930,000 children of between the ages of 9 months and 14 years in Kakamega county and warned that Measles is rated third among the deadliest diseases worldwide, hence the need for everyone to take this health exercise serious.
“Rubella infection in pregnant women may cause fetal death or congenital defects known as congenital rubella syndrome (CRS). Adults are therefore encouraged to get this vaccination,” she added.

Mrs. Peninah called upon parents to take their children to nearby health facilities and schools to get vaccinated and give a deaf ear to any misleading information that may surround this life saving exercise.
