H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa hosted Hon. Aisha Jumwa, the Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, Heritage, and the Arts, along with other government officials, to officiate the National Tree Growing at Nzoia Forest Station, Lugari Sub-County.

In his address, Governor Barasa expressed gratitude to the National Government for organizing the important initiative to restore the ecosystem and combat climate change. He announced that the County Government of Kakamega has allocated Ksh. 100 million for fencing the Kakamega Forest ecosystem over the next four years.

Governor Barasa also urged the National Government to increase resources allocated to County Governments to support disaster management initiatives. He assured residents that the County has established a robust disaster management team to address emergencies effectively.

CS Jumwa, on her part, commended residents and Governor Barasa for their commitment to tree planting and emphasized the importance of nurturing the planted trees. She encouraged collaboration with all agencies to achieve the National Government’s goal of planting over 15 billion trees by 2030.

The event was attended by PS’ Ummi Bashir (Culture), Ann Wang’ombe (Gender), area MP Hon. Nabii Nabwera, NGAO led by County Commissioner Mr. Mwangi Meru, County Officials led by CECM Peninah Mukabane, among others.
