In fulfilling the County Government of Kakamega’s first pillar of the six-point agenda, which encompasses Health, Water, and Sanitation, H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa officially commissioned the expanded maternity wing (Service Delivery Redesign Maternity) at Lumakanda Level-4 hospital in Lugari Sub-County. This additional facility will enhance the quality of care for mothers and their newborns.
The successful realization of this project is the result of a collaboration between the County Government of Kakamega and Jacaranda Health under Tutunze Kakamega Programme. This marks the second facility within the first phase of the programme, following the launch of another maternity wing in Malava Sub-County in March this year.
Kakamega County has also established partnerships with various organizations to facilitate healthcare access across the County. Notable contributors include Thinkwell, which supports health financing activities, Thinkplace, which enhances patient-service connectivity, and Rescue.co, improving our emergency service response, among other valued partners.
In a similar vein, Governor Barasa’s administration has allocated KSh 10 million for the solarization of Matete Health Centre, a move also aimed at reducing power costs.
The event was attended by the area MP Hon. Nabii Nabwera, esteemed partners represented by Jacaranda Health’s Assistant Country Director Dr Joab Makoyo, MCAs hosted by Hon. Bernard Mulama, CECMs Dr. Bernard Wesonga (Health), Rachel Atamba (Trade), Chief Officers and other senior officers led by the County Secretary Dr Lawrence Omuhaka.
