Kakamega County continues to stand out as the devolved unit committed to ensuring the national Food Basket stays filled. It’s on this note that H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa officially launched the distribution of farm subsidies for the Southern Sub-counties at Shiatsala, Marama South, Butere Sub-County.
The subsidies include; Fertilizer, Certified Maize Seeds, Pesticides and Fish Feeds.
The procurement of fertilizer and certified climate-resilient maize seeds involved thorough soil testing in sampled Wards across the County to ensure optimal composition and yields respectively, while providing a tailored solution to address challenges of soil infertility.
The subsidized prices are set at Ksh1920 for a 25kg bag of planting fertilizer, Ksh1350 for a 25 kg top dressing fertilizer and Ksh305 for a 2 kg packet of certified maize seeds.
To uphold integrity and prevent farmers from unexpected exploitations, all payments for these inputs are exclusively electronic.
Present were MCAs led by the Majority Leader Hon. Philip Maina and the host Hon. Willis Opuka, County Officials including CECMs, CS & HPS, COS, COs, Advisors, Administrators and Farmers.
