In line with Article 189 of the Constitution, and in a bid to strengthen collaboration with the National Government for development purposes, H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa chaired the inaugural meeting between County officials and senior officers from the National Government.
They collectively agreed to prioritize key projects aimed at driving the county’s growth, including:
1. Completion of the 750-bed Kakamega Level-6 Hospital.
2. Completion of the 40,000-capacity Bukhungu International Stadium.
3. Upgrading of the Kakamega Airstrip.
4. Establishment of a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) satellite campus in Likuyani Sub-county where 50-acre land has been availed.
They also committed to hold similar meetings on a quarterly basis to ensure continued cooperation and progress on these projects.
Attendees at the meeting included PS Higher Education and Research, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala; PS Economic Planning, Mr. James Muhati; Secretary SCAC, FCS Simon Indimuli; and Chairpersons and Directors of various State Corporations, including Hon. Benjamin Washiali, Dr. Connie Lusweti, Mr. Deberius Shikuku, Mr. George Kashindi, Mr. Tony Nabwera, Hon. Paul Posho, and Eng. Butichi Khamisi. Senior County officials present were led by the County Secretary, Dr. Lawrence Omuhaka.
