This morning, Shinyalu Bar ground in Lurambi Sub-county was packed to capacity as H.E. Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa presided over the third edition of the Governor’s Bullfighting Extravaganza, a colorful event that blended cultural pride with economic promise.

In a spectacle that drew cheers from the crowd, the Governor’s bull (Italanyi) marked its debut in the ring with a commanding victory in its very first fight, adding excitement and prestige to the occasion.

Governor Barasa used the platform to outline his administration’s plan to transform bullfighting from a traditional pastime into a major cultural and economic driver. β€œWe are charting a path to monetize the bullfighting tradition for participants while positioning it as a key driver of tourism, economic growth, and cultural preservation in Kakamega County,” he said.

The event highlighted Kakamega’s reputation as the home of bullfighting, with the Governor pledging to elevate the sport into a tourist attraction that benefits local communities, strengthens cultural identity, and fuels economic growth.

Also present were MCAs, County Executive Members, and other lovers of the cultural sport.
