H.E. Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, OGW, has expressed strong support for artisanal miners working alongside commercial miners under the Isuluโ€“Bushiangala Gold Project, noting that artisanal mining provides important employment and livelihoods for the community. He stressed that mining must be responsible, inclusive, and deliver real benefits to the people of Kakamega County.
Speaking today during a church service at Shichelechele Friends Church in Idakho East Ward, the Governor called for fair compensation for affected landowners, urged that mining remain free from political interference, and emphasized goodwill and continuous dialogue among all stakeholders.
He also encouraged miners to adopt modern technologies that improve safety and productivity without affecting local livelihoods, ensuring that mining benefits both the community and the county.
The service was attended by Deputy Governor Hon. Ayub Savula, MCAs led by host Hon. Silas Shiyenji, resident County executive officers, and other local leaders.
