This evening, H.E. Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa led the County Government and residents in mourning the untimely death of Chief Officer Jessica Weku Wesonga. Until her passing, Ms. Weku served in the Ministry of Agriculture as the Chief Officer for Livestock, Veterinary Services, and Fisheries.
Speaking at the Kakamega Funeral Parlour Chapel, where a short sermon was presided over by ACK Bishop Dr. Joseph Wandera of Mumias Diocese, Governor Barasa described her death as a profound shock. He hailed her as a versatile and loyal officer who advanced his administration’s agenda in both water and agriculture.
The Governor recalled Ms. Weku’s role in laying the foundation for the Amatsi Khumuliango water program and later driving agricultural transformation through new food chains and value addition. “With Jessica’s passing, we have lost a team player, a dependable worker, and an inspiration to the youth,” he said.
Also present were Deputy Governor Hon. Ayub Savula, MCAs, County Executive Committee Members, Chief Officers, the County Chaplaincy, and other County officials, who joined in comforting the bereaved family and honoring the late officer’s service.
May her soul rest in peace.
