H.E. Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa has officially launched the countywide distribution of free planting fertilizer and maize seeds, a game-changing initiative targeting low-income families, women, widows, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
This strategic move not only enhances food security but also empowers vulnerable groups to actively participate in food production, fostering economic independence.
The exercise kicked off in Matungu Sub-county and will be rolled out across all 12 sub-counties in Kakamega, ensuring that no farmer is left behind in the journey toward a food-secure county.
While addressing residents, Governor Barasa reaffirmed his commitment to infrastructure and healthcare development, announcing that the Matungu-Ogalo road upgrade to bitumen standards will be completed in two monthsโ time and will be ready for commissioning.
Additionally, the construction of a modern maternity wing at Matungu Level IV Hospital is ongoing to improve maternal healthcare services in the region.
The launch was attended by MCAs, led by host Hon. Fredrick Watitwa, and County Executives, led by CECM Mophat Mandela, among other leaders.
