H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa has maintained that the County Government of Kakamega is alive to its core responsibility of empowering citizens economically by providing a supportive environment for their businesses to thrive, with a particular focus on vulnerable and special groups like youth, women, and persons living with disabilities (PLWDs).
In working towards this goal, the Governor presided over the distribution of Social Protection Grants to 900 youth, women, and PLWD groups, with 15 groups per ward, at Musoli Girls Playground in Ikolomani Sub-County. Each group received Ksh. 50,000 following a successful vetting exercise.
The Governor said that the programme complements other initiatives his administration is implementing which are aimed at economically empowering Kakamega residents, including the distribution of subsidized farm inputs, construction of roads to facilitate the movement of goods, and the construction of market stalls, among others.
Majority Leader Hon. Philip Maina led MCAs who graced the event which was also attended by County Officials, beneficiaries and other stakeholders.
