The Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs held a stakeholder meeting with artisanal miners, local leaders, and other key participants of Kakamega County to discuss the proposed Isulu-Bushiangala Gold Mining Project.
The meeting held at the Golf hotel, Kakamega, was presided over by the Principal Secretary for Mining, Harry Kimtai, and was graced by H.E. Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, who highlighted the County Governmentโs commitment to responsible and inclusive mining practices.
The forum brought together Shanta Gold Kenya Limited, representatives of artisanal miners led by Patrick Ligami, county officials, and other stakeholders.
Participants were briefed on the project, which is at the pre-development stage, including applying for a mining license, as well as the rules and other requirements for mining activities.
Discussions focused on ensuring that mining benefits local communities, including fair compensation for landowners, protection of water and land resources, environmental safeguards, and continuous engagement among all parties.
In his address, Governor Barasa said that the County Government fully supports responsible mining that delivers real benefits to the people, emphasizing the need to depoliticise mining activities, strengthen goodwill, ensure fair compensation, and maintain inclusive dialogue among all stakeholders.
Also present Were County Executives led by Chief Officer for Natural Resources Bill Silingi, among other officials.
