The County Government of Kakamega has launched a Soccer Talent Identification and Nurturing Program at Bukhungu Stadium, fulfilling a commitment made by H.E. Governor Dr. FCPA Fernandes Barasa during the grand finale of the 4th Edition of the Governorโs Cup. The initiative builds on the Governorโs Cup mantra of identifying and nurturing talent, and aims to open pathways for young footballers to grow their skills and access professional opportunities.
This evening, the Chief Officer for Sports, Mr. Lawrence Mukoyani, officially received football scouts from the United States at Bukhungu Stadium to conduct a talent identification exercise for players drawn from across the Western Region. The program targets both male and female players who participated in the recently concluded Governorโs Cup tournament, reinforcing the Countyโs commitment to inclusive sports development.
Mr. Mukoyani thanked the scouts for selecting Kakamega County as the host of the Western Region scouting program and urged players to uphold discipline, commitment, and hard work. The scouting team, led by Matt Reeb of Indiana Wesleyan University for the male participants and Keaton Albert of Huntington University for the female participants, emphasized focus and discipline as key requirements for success.
Kenyan football legend Bob Oyugi commended Governor Fernandes Barasa for sustaining the Governorโs Cup as a strong platform for grassroots talent development. The scouting program begins tomorrow and runs until Friday, marking a significant step in positioning sports as a driver of youth empowerment, unity, and socio-economic development in Kakamega County.
