H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa has today hosted the Practical Action team led by Ms. Lucy Stevens, Head of Cities Programme, in his office.
The County Government of Kakamega is pursuing a tripartite partnership with Practical Action, a UK-based organization, and Regen Organics by Sanergy Collaborative to support it’s value-chain strategies towards waste management.
The County’s goal is to establish a Material Recovery Facility for organic, inorganic, and electronic waste, directly benefiting over 15,000 households in Kakamega County.
In line with Governor Barasa’s Wealth Creation and Infrastructure Development pillar, the facility will attract additional partners in recycling and reusing waste, to enable full operationalization of the organic fertilizer plant in Matawa and increase the number of investors in waste management in the county.
Present at the meeting were the Deputy Governor Hon. Ayub Savula, CECMs Ms. Peninah Mukabane (Water and Environment and Natural Resources) and Mr. Benjamin Andama (Agriculture), CEO KCIDA Ms Elizabeth Asichi, County Attorney CS. Vivian Mmbaka, Chief Officers Justin Mutobera, and Mr. Bill Silingi, among others.
