H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa has urged the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to honour the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) it reached with teachers, highlighting its significance including motivation and enhancing quality education.

He made this appeal on Saturday, the 7th, during the Kakamega North branch of Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Special Annual General Meeting held at Friends Church – Malava in Malava Sub-County.

Governor Barasa also called on the National Government to address teacher staffing issues and improvement of school infrastructure.

Additionally, he announced the doubling of the County Bursary Fund to Ksh 240 million in support of education for bright but underprivileged students.

This initiative received applause from KNUT officials coordinated by Ms. Mercy Ndung’u who represented the union’s Secretary General Mr. Collins Oyuu, County Officials led by Education CECM Dr. Bonface Okoth and the locals.

Earlier in the day, the Governor paid his respects to the late Prince Julius Mumia Onyere in Matungu Sub-county, where he was accompanied by ODM’s Secretary General Hon. Edwin Sifuna, County Executives, and MCAs, before proceeding to Mumias East to condole with the family of Dr. Christopher Makana Tabuche.
