Kakamega Governor H.E. FCPA Fernandes Barasa has called for enhanced accountability, strict adherence to the Constitution, and equitable resource allocation to county governments as key steps towards meaningful development across the country.
Speaking today during Day 3 of the 42nd Annual Seminar of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) at White Sands Sarova Hotel in Mombasa, Governor Barasa emphasized the importance of fiscal discipline and proper governance structures in strengthening devolution.
โ€œWe need accountability, proper respect for the Constitution, and adequate funding allocation to county governments. This is the only way to empower counties to deliver services effectively and spur inclusive growth,โ€ he stated.
Governor Barasa, a seasoned accountant and former ICPAK Council Chair, was among the panelists discussing the topic; โ€œThe Kenya We Want: A Review of the Countryโ€™s Socio-Economic and Political Standing.โ€ The discussion explored the evolving role of professionals in shaping national transformation, in line with the seminarโ€™s theme, โ€œBeyond the Profession: Accountants in All Spheres of the Economy.โ€
Governor Barasa used the platform to reiterate his commitment to prudent financial management and championing policies that empower counties to be engines of development.
As Chair of Finance and Planning at the Council of Governors, Governor Barasa continues to be a vocal advocate for the strengthening of devolution as a key driver of Kenyaโ€™s socio-economic progress.
