FARMERS EMBRACE CLIMATE SMART DAIRY FARMING IN BUTERE

The Chief Officer for Livestock, Veterinary services and Fisheries Ms. Jessica Wesonga today graced the Farmers’ Field Day in Marama Central Ward in Butere Sub-county with a focus on promoting climate smart agriculture under the FFLoCA program.
The event, which centred on dairy production as the main project in the area brought together farmers and stakeholders to learn best practices in dairy farming, fodder plot establishment and feed formulation aimed at reducing cost production on farms.
Ms. Wesonga emphasized the importance of dairy farming as a climate resilient value chain that contributes significantly to food security, in line with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s agenda to ensure food sufficiency across the county.
She further highlighted the County Government’s support to farmers through various initiatives, including the recent distribution of 6,000 day old chicks, operationalization of Butere poultry hatchery, provision of fertilizer and top dressing and the ‘one cow initiative’ aimed at improving livelihoods.
The field day provided a practical platform for farmers to exchange experiences and strengthen their capacity to adopt climate smart dairy practices for long term food security and economic growth.
