CECM MASICHA TAKES MENTORSHIP INITIATIVE TO OLD SCHOOL

CECM for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender, and Culture, Ms. Jackline Masicha, today returned to her former school, St. Philips Mukomari Secondary in Shinyalu Sub-County, where she held a motivational talk aimed to inspire students towards academic excellence and personal growth.
Reflecting on her own background, Ms. Masicha encouraged learners to identify their areas of academic strengths and capitalize on their abilities, make good networks with neighboring schools, share positive experiences as well as challenges with their peers and teachers, noting that problems too can be a foundation for future success.
About choices of career paths, Ms. Masicha advised that, โ€œThe speed at which you run depends on what is chasing you or what you are chasing,โ€ as she urged them to stay focused, determined, and connected with right minded people. She emphasized the importance of discipline, positive self-talk, walking with confidence, respect for their teachers and developing soft skills that go beyond classroom knowledge.
The youthful CEC Member also took the opportunity to caution girls to stay alert on issues of gender-based violence, which she said has become rampant, especially among school-going girls. She urged them to speak out about such acts, whether in school or at home, and report any form of abuse to responsible persons so that justice can be pursued.
Her message resonated strongly with Governor Fernandes Barasaโ€™s manifesto on youth empowerment, quality education, and the holistic development of every child in Kakamega County. She later distributed sanitary towels, a key essential in ensuring the girl child remains uninterrupted in school and therefore commits to excellence in her academics.
Also present was the school principal Ms. Doris Makokha Ong’injo, motivational speaker Mr. Victor Charles Akuba, among other dignitaries.
