Kakamega County Strengthening GIS Governance Framework ‎

Kakamega County officers together with officials from FAO on Thursday held a consultative forum to validate the draft Geographic Information Systems (GIS) policy, an initiative aimed at strengthening land governance in the county.
Incharge CECM Ms. Angela Silima said ‎Kakamega County has faced challenges in fully operationalizing GIS due to absence of standardized guidelines to guide system use and interdepartmental coordination. She however expressed optimism that with growing alignment to the Digital Land Governance Programme, the County is now well-positioned to harness GIS for improved planning, service delivery and sustainable land management.
Ms Silima added that the newly formed steering committee will serve as the apex body responsible for guiding GIS development, policy formulation and countywide implementation.
The meeting was attended by Director Physical Planning Mr Stephen Chune, officers from the County’s Legal office and representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the sponsors of the activity.
