Bukhungu Stadium Upgrade on Course as Construction Gains Momentum
The upgrade of Bukhungu Stadium is progressing well, with Phase II and Phase III works on course. The project is being implemented through collaboration between the County Government of Kakamega and the National Government.
H.E. Governor FCPA Dr. Fernandes Barasa has played a key role in strengthening this partnership to ensure the stadium is completed on time and meets modern standards.
Phase II includes installation of canopies, expansion of the main VIP stand, and improvement of terraces and seating areas. New facilities such as a gym, modern changing rooms and medical rooms are also under construction.
Phase III, known as the Southern ‘C’ Section, involves building terraces and support structures to complete the stadium’s seating bowl.
During an inspection today, CECM for Social Services, Youth, Sports, Culture, Gender and Library Services, Ms. Jackline Masicha, confirmed the works are on schedule and expected to be completed by September. Once complete, the stadium is expected to host matches during the Africa Cup of Nations, placing Kakamega among key host venues. She was accompanied by Chief Officer Lawrence Mukoyani.
