GOVERNOR BARASA ISSUES KSh.5 MILLION SOCIAL PROTECTION GRANTS IN BUTERE.
Women, youth, persons living with disabilities and widows in Butere Sub-County today received KSh.5 million under the Social Protection Grants Programme to support enterprises and improve livelihoods.
The allocation benefited 100 groups across the five wards, with each ward receiving KSh.1 million to support 20 groups. Each group received KSh.50,000.
The Butere allocation is part of the KSh.60 million Countywide Social Protection Grants Programme, which will benefit 1,200 groups across Kakamega Countyโs 60 wards.
H.E. Governor Dr Fernandes Barasa, FCPA OGW, urged beneficiaries to use the grants responsibly and invest in viable ventures that will generate sustainable incomes.
The Governor said the grants complement other County Government empowerment initiatives, including affordable financing through the Kakamega Microfinance Corporation, which has disbursed more than KSh.140 million over the past four years.
Governor Barasa also highlighted ongoing development projects in Butere, including Butere County Hospital, ECDE centres, roads, the Firatsi Water Project and Shiatsala Market.
He was accompanied by Butere MP Hon. Tindi Mwale, MCAs led by Majority Leader Hon. Philip Maina, the County Executive and other county officials and local leaders.
