KAKAMEGA COUNTY OPENS A NEW ABLUTION BLOCK AT AMALEMBA MARKET.

The County Government of Kakamega has officially opened a KSh. 2 M ablution block at Amalemba Market, constructed in collaboration with the Elijah Lidonde Foundation (TELF) through Bongobongo Betting Company, to enhance sanitation and support wealth creation among traders and residents in the area.

Gracing the occasion on behalf of Governor, H.E. Dr. Fernandes Barasa, Chief Officer for Lands, Survey and Physical Planning, Eng. Ishmael Makanga, appreciated TELF and Bongobongo Betting Company for funding the project. He noted that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the County Government and TELF was signed on April 30, 2026, with the County providing land for the development of the facility. He said the initiative aligns with the Governor’s development agenda, particularly in promoting sanitation and wealth creation.

Chief Officer for Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Shakir Adan, said the ablution block will supplement existing facilities in the area, including those serving the market, while creating employment opportunities for local residents. He urged traders and residents to work together to maintain the facility and use it responsibly, noting that such partnerships play an important role in improving community infrastructure.

TELF Lead, Mr. Alexander Muteshi, thanked the County Government for its support, noting that the project will not only improve sanitation but also provide a water-selling point that will contribute to addressing the long-standing water challenges in the area.

Bongobongo Betting Company General Manager, Mr. Kimani Kimeme, appreciated the cooperation between the partners, reaffirming the company’s commitment to working with stakeholders to improve livelihoods and transform communities.

The event was attended by senior County Government officials and administrators, among other stakeholders.
