FIRST LADY OPENS KCB 2JIAJIRI PROGRAMME – KAKAMEGA COUNTY

Kakamega First Lady Priscilla Oparanya has officially launched the ambitious 2Jiajiri programme sponsored by KCB Foundation at Bukura Agricultural Training College paving way for an extensive 3-6 months training in agribusiness for over 200 students at the celebrated agricultural training institution.

Speaking during the event, the first lady congratulated the trainees for the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural practices and called on them to be disciplined and committed throughout their period of training. They will be trained in Poultry, Dairy and Horticulture. “This programme will equip you with business knowledge and on completion you are also expected to have a clear understanding of how to spend your money,” she said. She urged them to use the skills learnt at the end of the course to stimulate agricultural growth in their respective counties and become self reliant.

CECM for Trade, Tourism and Industrialization Mr. Kassim Were assured the trainees of a ready market for their products. He cited the upcoming industrial park at Matawa, in Mumias West sub county as well as Malava Dairy and Shinyalu Tea factories as some of the measures the county government has taken to ensure a ready market for their products. “Kakamega Micro Finance Corporation that is soon opening its doors for you and other business people in the county will also go a long way in equipping you with the relevant business ideas,” he added.

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Kakamega Branch Manager Mr. Eliud Siganga said in addition to sponsoring the trainees to better their skills and knowledge, the foundation will also provide them with a ready market for their products. He encouraged the youths who fail to attain the cut off grades for university education to enrol for courses in technical and vocational colleges terming it a lifetime opportunity to transform their lives.

Bukura Agricultural Training College Principal Dr. Richard Wekesa was in attendance as well as the Head of Trade Deborah Munyekenye and the Manager KCB Mumias Branch Mr. Mathias Mwema among others.
