INSTILL THE CULTURE OF BORROWING IN RESIDENTS ~ PROF. KUTIMA

Kakamega County Deputy Governor H.E Prof. Philip Museve Kutima has advised young people in the County to embrace financial borrowing inorder to grow their economic status. The Deputy Governor also tasked the Kakamega Microfinance Corporation Agency to sensitise residents on the importance of financial borrowing from Cooperatives and other financial institutions, in order to empower the young people economically.

He was speaking during a monthly Ministerial project status report meeting at Golf Hotel, Kakamega, Wednesday afternoon, where he instructed the CEO of Kakamega Microfinance Mr. Baraza Wangwe to tap expertise from relevant partners and Corporations such as Uwezo Fund to accomplish the Government objective of empowering residents financially.

“Our people must be encouraged to take risks and invest in serious income generating activities for them to grow financially,” he said.

Recently, Prof. Kutima hosted the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Public Service, Youth and Gender Hon. Rachel Shebesh where it was observed that Youth and Women from Kakamega were not utilizing well the funds from Youth and Uwezo Funds like their peers in other counties.

Prof. Kutima also called on the Kakamega Revenue Agency (KRA) to step up revenue collection efforts to match up with the growing needs of the populace.

CECM for Finance, Planning and ICT, Dr. Beatrice Sabana reiterated the need for clearance of all pending bills and incomplete projects terming it a requirement for release of funds to devolved units by the Exchequer.

“We cannot initiate any new project/s before we clear the pending bills and complete the old projects,” she said.

Also in attendance were the Chairperson of the County Public Service Board Madam Catherine Raini Omweno, CECM Members, Deputy County Secretary Mr. Joshua Kutekha, Chief Officers, CEOs’, Advisors and Heads of Departments among other senior Government officers.
