ASSESSMENT OF ASSISTIVE DEVICES BENEFICIARIES ONGOING

People Living with Disabilities in Kakamega County will receive free assistive devices from the County Government of Kakamega.

In line with the support to People with Disabilities programme domiciled in the County Department of Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture headed by Mr Mophat Mandela, the CECM, Officers from the Unit together with their colleagues from the County Department of Health Services intensified the assessment of the vulnerable groups to ascertain the would be rightful beneficiaries before embarking on the actual issuance, an exercise that will be centrally launched by H.E the Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa.

The Ministry has allocated Ksh 17 Million this Financial Year to assist People Living with Disabilities; mobility, visual and hearing impairments.

Some of the devices that will be issued are; wheelchairs, tricycles, sunscreen lotions, crutches and prothesis among many others.

Specialists from the Department of health, drawn from the sections of; Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy, Dermatologist and Orthopedic among others are involved in the screening.

Today the assessors are in Lugari and Navakholo, Likuyani and Malava Sub-Counties. On Thursday they visited Khwisero, Ikolomani, Lurambi and Shinyalu.
