COUNTY, AMPATH AND MOI UNIVERSITY DISCUSS PARTNERSHIP IN MULTIPLE MYELOMA TREATMENT

County Government of Kakamega today held consultative discussions with Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH) and Moi University to strengthen treatment and management of Multiple Myeloma in the region. The focus is to establish Kakamega County as a regional treatment hub, with Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital (KCTRH) designated as a Centre of Excellence for specialized cancer care, offering advanced treatment protocols, research support, and capacity building for healthcare workers.
Speaking on behalf of the Department of Health Services, Chief Officer for Public Health, Mrs. Rose Muhanda, welcomed the partnership, highlighting that KCTRH will provide residents with timely access to specialized oncology services, reducing the need to seek treatment outside the county. She emphasized that involving CHPs (Community Health Promoters) will strengthen community sensitization, encourage early screening, and ensure prompt referral of suspected cases.
The partnership is set to benefit not only local residents but also patients from neighboring counties, reinforcing the County’s status as a regional healthcare hub. The parties have agreed to fast-track the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize the collaboration and outline clear implementation frameworks, marking a significant step in advancing specialized cancer care in the region.
