COUNTY, ASSEMBLY REVIEW SHANTA GOLD PROGRESS IN KAKAMEGA
The County Government of Kakamega, through the Department of Environment led by Chief Officer CPA Bill Silingi, today convened a stakeholder progress review workshop with Kakamega County Assembly and Shanta Gold Kenya Limited to assess developments of the Isulu–Bushiangala Gold Mining Project in Ikolomani Subcounty.
Chief Officer Silingi emphasized the need for Shanta Gold to prioritize stakeholder engagement in setting up the mining center to guarantee the safety of residents throughout the mining process. He added that meaningful engagement will not only foster community acceptance but also ensure compliance with health standards in line with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s pillars of Good Governance and Quality Healthcare.
Shanta Gold’s General Manager, Mr. Jiten Divecha, reported that the project has recorded significant milestones through collaborative efforts and is now progressing to the licensing phase.
The company’s Sustainability and Corporate Affairs team further stressed the importance of a joint approach to harness the strengths of all stakeholders, noting that collaboration is key to achieving long-term sustainability and shared value for the community.
Members of the County Assembly, led by Environment Committee Chair Mr. Ali Okomba, were also in attendance.
