COUNTY GRANTS AND NYOTA PROJECT TO EMPOWER YOUTH AND WOMEN IN KAKAMEGA

Kakamega County Government will soon disburse social protection grants to youth, women, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) groups to help them expand their businesses. A total of 1,200 groups from across the county have qualified for the grants, with each set to receive Ksh. 50,000.
Speaking at the Mumias Sports Complex during the launch of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, presided over by President Dr. William Ruto, Kakamega Deputy Governor Hon. Ayub Savula said the County initiative, like the NYOTA Project, is designed to transform the lives of hundreds of needy households through empowerment and access to capital.
Standing in for Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa OGW , the Deputy Governor emphasized the County’s commitment to promoting youth and women empowerment under Governor Barasa’s Wealth Creation agenda. He urged young people to take advantage of the County Government’s unconditional grants and low-interest loans offered through the Department of Trade to strengthen their enterprises and create jobs.
The NYOTA Project, launched by the Head of State before an audience of 12,150 youths — 70 from each ward in the Western Region — seeks to build the capacity of young people to grow sustainable businesses while cultivating a culture of saving and financial discipline.
The event brought together leaders from the Western region, led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, and Governors from Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma, and Vihiga counties, alongside several Cabinet Secretaries and senior government officials — all affirming their collective commitment to empowering youth and driving regional economic transformation.
