COUNTY, ICS REVIEW PROGRESS OF TEEN MOTHERS EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME
Kakamega County in partnership with ICS today reviewed progress of the teen mothers’ Empowerment intervention being piloted in Shinyalu and Malava subcounties. The meeting, chaired by the CECM for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture CPA Jackline Masicha alongside CECM for Health Services Mr. Livingstone Imbayi, assessed gains made since the initial review held on 27th January 2026.
The programme has so far empowered over 2,000 teen mothers through economic and life skills training, school re-admission support, family reintegration, and male involvement in childcare. Notably, 382 beneficiaries were among graduates of the recent Kakamega County Polytechnic graduation presided over by Governor Dr. FCPA Fernandes Barasa and the First Lady prof. Janet Kassily Barasa, a champion of the teen mothers.
The meeting emphasized the importance of the recently launched Social Protection Policy and resolved to incorporate a Gender Transformative Programme in the next County Intergrated Development Plan (CIDP) for sustainability.
Officials also agreed on the need to develop a comprehensive Childcare Policy and Childcare Facility Policy to enhance service delivery.
