COUNTY JOINS NTSA, KENHA TO MARK WORLD DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR ROAD ACCIDENT VICTIMS

The County Government of Kakamega today joined the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) in commemorating the World Day of Remembrance for Road Accident Victims. According to statistics recorded between January and November 2025, Kakamega County has registered 88 road fatalities.
Speaking during the event held in Kakamega town, the County Chief Officer for Lands and Physical Planning Eng. Ishmael Makanga urged the residents to strictly observe road safety measures and adhere to traffic rules in order to reduce road accidents–related injuries and deaths.
The commemoration began with a visit to road accident victims admitted at the Kakamega County General Hospital in the casualty and accident wards. This was followed by an awareness walk from the hospital, passing through Amalemba Primary School to the Kakamega Central Business District, converging at the Kakamega Taxi Park, opposite Equity Bank.
NTSA Western Regional Manager, Mr. Wilson Sankei, emphasized the importance of partnership and collaboration in enhancing public awareness on road safety.
On his part, Mr. Gabriel Oyugi, KENHA Roads Superintendent, welcomed the continued cooperation among stakeholders and pledged sustained road maintenance efforts within Kakamega County.
The County Government of Vihiga’s delegation was led by Grace Kadenge, the CECM for Roads. Other officials present included Mr. Robert Chisaka, representing the Director of Medical Services, Kakamega County, AA Driving School, Sigalagala National Polytechnic, and the National Police Service.
