EMPOWER COUNTIES TO REALIZE CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION FOR ALL – MRS MUKABANE
County governments are best positioned to deliver water access to communities across the nation. This message was underscored by the CECM for Water, Environment, Natural resources and Climate Change Mrs Peninah Mukabane during a high level workshop for players in the water sector held in Malindi.
During her presentation titled “Challenges and Opportunities in Implementing SDG No. 6 – (clean water and sanitation for all): A Critical Analysis of Devolution in Kenya’s Water Sector”, Mrs Mukabane said counties are seeking collaboration and not competition from sector players including National Government regulatory agencies and championed for a one-license policy through the WASREB-Water Regulatory Authority (WRA) joint frameworks.
The CECM further called for activation of Inter-Governmental Relations Committee and clear definition of roles by the concerned players.
The forum was attended by representatives from both levels of government, development partners and other key stakeholders in the water sector.
