KAKAMEGA COUNTY SIGNS 5 YEAR DEAL WITH CGA TO BENEFIT 30,000+ FARMERS

Over 30,000 farmers in Kakamega are set to benefit from a new partnership between the County Government and the Cereal Growers Association (CGA). The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by CECM for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives, Mr. Mophat Mandela, on behalf of H.E. Governor Fernandes Barasa.
The five-year agreement will strengthen value chains through soil testing, certified inputs, training, and reliable market access. Farmers will also benefit from programs such as the Farmers to Market Alliance, Farmer Service Centres, and Village-Based Advisors, alongside ongoing CGA projects like AgriBooster, Bayerโ€™s Smallholder Productivity Improvement Project, and the TAAT II program promoting high-iron beans. The collaboration will also extend to poultry, sunflower, apiculture, and african leafy vegatables to diversify incomes
Mr. Mandela emphasized that the partnership aims to shift farmers from subsistence to agribusiness, ensuring they grow not just to eat, but to earnโ€”advancing Governor Barasaโ€™s agenda of agriculture-driven food security, wealth creation, and industrial growth.
