STATE OF THE COUNTY ADDRESS
Today, H.E. Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa delivered the State of the County Address at the Kakamega County Assembly ahead of its 4th Session. He highlighted key achievements, ongoing projects, and priorities.
In his address, the Governor provided sectoral updates, including:
Roads and Infrastructureβ 234 projects worth Ksh. 594 million, most of which are complete.
Healthβ 66 projects underway, with 34 completed and others progressing.
Water and Environmentβ 125 projects valued at Ksh. 207 million, with Ksh. 47 million already paid.
Trade and Industrializationβ Projects, including boda boda shades and markets, are 80% complete.
Education β 61 projects worth Ksh. 265 million are ongoing, with Ksh. 60 million disbursed.
Governor Barasa reaffirmed his collaboration with the national government, securing President William Rutoβs commitment to complete Bukhungu Stadium by June 2026 and discussing the finalization of Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital.
On budget matters, he urged the Assembly to support budget realignment to kick-start stalled projects and appreciated the passage of the supplementary budget to drive development.
Governor Barasa defended secondary school students’ right to county bursaries despite the ongoing national debate and emphasized compliance with legal frameworks while pushing for policy solutions.
To enhance food security, Governor Barasa announced plans to partner with the National Cereals and Produce Board to distribute 80,000 bags of fertilizer through 15 centers across the county under the Last Mile Distribution Program. He remains committed to provision of subsidized maize seeds, expanding markets for farmers, supporting fish farming, and ensuring fair and consistent sugarcane bonuses.
Governor Barasa called on leaders to uphold integrity, serve the people with dedication, and work collectively to enhance governance and service delivery.
He assured residents that his administration is focused on delivering impactful projects and advancing Kakamegaβs development agenda.
