SERVICE DELIVERY TEAM CONCLUDES PROJECTS MONITORING AND VERIFICATION IN THE NORTHERN REGION

The County Government’s Risk Management and Service Delivery Unit concluded a three-day inspection and verification of projects in Lugari, Likuyani and Malava focusing on facilities ready for commissioningm in the sub-counties.
Led by incharge Chief Officer Dr. Phitalis Were Masakhwe, the team held consultative meetings with Sub-County Administrators and Heads of Departments, emphasizing strengthened staff supervision, project monitoring, risk management practices, and the institutionalization of risk registers.
The inspection covered key health facilities, including Lumakanda County Hospital, Matunda Sub-County Hospital, Marakusi Dispensary, Mautuma Sub-County Hospital, Likuyani Level 4 Hospital, and Malava Sub-County Hospital. All facilities were found adequately stocked with drugs and non-pharmaceuticals to sustain services for three months, ahead of the next procurement phase. Talks are at an advanced stage to upgrade Mautuma Hospital to Level 4 status for improved service delivery and enhance own source revenue.
At Likuyani Level 4 Hospital, construction of a modern 60-bed maternity wing is nearing completion. The additional 40-bed maternity and newborn unit at Malava Level 4 Hospital is complete and ready for use. The long-stalled Marakusi Dispensary in Lugari, dormant for over a decade, is now complete, operational, and ready for commissioning by H.E. the Governor.
Economic and education projects assessed included the Lugari Maize Milling Plant (Fuka), where branding and packaging of Fuka Flour and animal feeds were recommended, and the Likuyani Aggregation and Industrial Park, where ongoing construction was noted. Mapera ECDE in Sango Ward is complete and ready for commissioning.
Dr. Masakhwe reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Fernandes Barasaโ€™s administration to effective devolved governance, transparency, equity, and timely service delivery across Kakamega County. The visit was supported by officers from the Risk Management and Service Delivery Unit and the Communication Department.
