This morning, Kakamega Governor, H.E. FCPA Fernandes Barasa, joined the Muslim Ummah of Lugari Station Mosque, Lugari ward, Lugari Sub-county in celebration of this year’s Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations.
In his speech, the Governor urged members of Parliament to amend the respective provisions of the Finance Act, 2023, specifically those requiring farmers to pay additional taxes by registering on the eTims platform.
The Governor said that Kakamega County’s economy heavily depends on farming and the implementation of the new tax regulation will have significant adverse effects on the region.
Further, the Governor regretted that the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) had reduced cane prices, urging it to review their decision and increase the prices so that farmers can recoup their investments.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor Hon. Ayub Savula, MCAs led by the Majority Whip Hon. Benard Mulama, County Officials, among others.
