Kakamega Dairy Development Corporation CEO Mr. Ezekiel Lumbasi, accompanied by corporation officials, led farmers in establishing the Legume Development Unit at the Likuyani Smart Dairy Farm, aligning with Governor Barasa’s Food Security and Wealth Creation agenda for Kakamega residents.

KDDC, dedicated to advancing the dairy value chain, has set up smart dairy farms across the county, serving as commercial farms, breeding centers, and training hubs for farmers.

The 7-acre legume development program, with 5 acres of legumes and 2 acres of Desmodium, is the agency’s initial pilot project, with plans to replicate it across all 12 subcounties.

These legumes serve as a crucial source of crude protein, boosting the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of the smart dairy farms.

Mr. Lumbasi encouraged the 60 trained farmers representatives to extend their knowledge to other farmers, aiming to increase milk production and supply to the game changer Malava dairy processing plant.

KDDC partnered with Kenya Seed to provide quality certified seeds and technical expertise, ensuring the program’s success and value for money.
