𝐆𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐎𝐑 𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐀 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐒 𝐊𝐒𝐇.𝟔 𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐒𝐎𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐋𝐔𝐆𝐀𝐑𝐈

H.E. Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, OGW, today disbursed KSh.6 million in Social Protection Grants to 120 groups across Lugari Sub-County, putting direct financial support into the hands of women, youth, persons with disabilities and widows. Each of Lugari’s six wards; Lumakanda , Lugari, Lwandeti, Chevaywa, Mautuma and Chekalini received KSh.1 million.

In his address Governor Barasa urged the beneficiaries to turn the grants into sustainable enterprises that improve household incomes and livelihoods.

The Lugari disbursement brings the County Government’s Social Protection Grants Programme closer to its KSh.60 million target, which will support 1,200 groups across all the 60 wards of Kakamega County.

Beyond the grants, Governor Barasa highlighted ongoing investments transforming Lugari, including the already tarmacked 8km Lumakanda–Manyonyi Road, modern ECDE centres, water projects, bridges and the commissioned maternity wing at Lumakanda Level 4 Hospital.

He also pointed to the Lugari Fuka Maize Milling Plant as an example of how public-private partnerships can drive value addition, create markets for farmers and generate employment.

He was accompanied by Director of Communication for the ODM Party, Mr. Philip Etale; MCAs led by the Chair Social Services Committee Hon. Modesta Auka; CECM for Social Services, CPA Jackline Masicha; other Officials of the County Executive; among other leaders.
