Women remain the backbone of our communities. When we empower them, we uplift the entire society. In the 2025/2026 Financial Year, the County Government of Kakamega has allocated KSh 255 million to Social Services, Sports, Youth, and Gender initiatives, with a significant portion dedicated to empowering women and other marginalized groups.
Earlier today, H.E. Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa graced the Likuyani Women Empowerment Programme, hosted by MP Hon. Innocent Mugabe, where funds were raised to support 110 women groups. The initiative aims to strengthen the economic resilience of grassroots women and aligns with the Governorโ€™s broader agenda of structured funding and capacity building. Speaking at the event, Governor Barasa reaffirmed his commitment to expanding these interventions through close collaboration with leaders at both county and national levels.
The event brought together key national leaders, including the Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Wetangโ€™ula, who served as Chief Guest, President William Rutoโ€™s aide Farouk Kibet, Senate Majority Leader Hon. Aaron Cheruiyot, Members of Parliament, MCAs, and senior government officials, demonstrating a unified front in championing women empowerment as a driver of sustainable development.
