Kakamega Governor H.E. FCPA Fernandes Barasa has called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to expedite investigations into the recent brutal killings of two Catholic priestsโ€”Fr. John Maina Ndegwa of Igwamiti Catholic Parish in Nyandarua and Fr. Alloiss Cheruiyot Bett of St. Lumumba Catholic Church in Elgeyo Marakwet. He termed the killings as shocking and unacceptable, urging security agencies to move swiftly and ensure justice is served.
The Governor made the remarks while gracing the consecration ceremony of the newly elevated Holy Cross Sango Parish in Likuyani Sub-county. The ceremony, presided over by Rt. Rev. Bishop Joseph Obanyi Sagwe of the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega, marked a major milestone in promoting spiritual growth and deepening faith among the residents.
During the event, the Governor congratulated Fr. Morris Kigame on his installation as the first parish priest and commended the Catholic Church for its long-standing commitment to nurturing moral values and contributing to community development.
Governor Barasa also highlighted ongoing development projects in Likuyani, announcing that the Sango Smart Farm is ready for commissioning and that the newly constructed ECDE classroom at Mapera Primary School will soon be operational.
Also present at the event were Likuyani MP Hon. Innocent Mugabe, area MCA Hon. Kennedy Lutilo, and senior county officials led by CECM for Trade, Industrialization, and Tourism, Mr. Godfrey Owori.
