Kakamega Governor H. E. FCPA Fernandes Barasa was hosted in Bungoma County by H.E Governor Ken Lusaka at the BETA Kilimo Pre-Madaraka Day Food Security Exhibition, which commenced today. The 4-day event serves as a precursor to this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations, themed “Agriculture and Food Security,” set to be celebrated in the County.
In his address, Governor Barasa highlighted that the exhibition, along with the upcoming 61st Madaraka Day celebrations, has attracted many visitors to Kakamega County, resulting in a boom in the hospitality sector.
During a panel discussion, Governor Barasa emphasized the need for the full devolution of agricultural functions to effectively address food security. He pointed out that functions such as the purchase and distribution of fertilizer should be managed by counties as different regions have unique soil profiles.
Governor Lusaka welcomed all visitors to Bungoma County, encouraging them to sample different indigenous foods and enjoy the hospitality of the host community.
Also present was the Principal Secretary, State Department of Agriculture, Dr. Paul Ronoh, among others.
