Doctors in Kakamega County have officially called off their strike following the successful signing of an agreement between the County Government and the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU).
Speaking during a press briefing at the County Headquarters shortly after the signing, KMPDU National Secretary General Dr. Dennis Miskellah confirmed that the County Government, under the leadership of H.E. FCPA Fernandes Barasa, had addressed the key concerns raised by the medics. He announced that all doctors would resume duty within 48 hours.
Echoing this, KMPDU Western Branch Chairperson Dr. Joseph Makomere commended the county administration for the fruitful engagement, noting that a comprehensive return-to-work formula had been agreed upon.
He affirmed that this marks the beginning of normalized operations in all public health facilities across Kakamega County.
This development reflects Governor Barasa’s commitment to strengthening the health sector through dialogue, collaboration, and sustainable solutions for healthcare workers and residents alike.
CECM for Health Services CPA Dr. Livingston Imbayi, flanked by his Chief Officer Dr. David Alila and Director Dr Steve Wandei, said the achievement is inline with the governor’s good governance agenda for the people of Kakamega County.
