COUNTY WORKING TOWARDS INCREASING TREE COVER

In line with the National Government’s agenda of planting over 15 Billion trees by end of 2032, Kakamega County Government through the Department of Education in collaboration with Kabras RFC players undertook a two day tree planting exercise in various learning institutions across the County aimed at mitigating climate change.

Speaking during the event at St. Theresa’s Isanjiro County Polytechnic in Malava Sub-County, The County Executive Committee Member for Education Science and Technology Mr. Geoffrey Owori noted that the exercise will not only help in combating extreme weather conditions such as unpredictable rainfall patterns, drought and floods caused by climatical changes but will also enhance food security which is one of the six pillar agenda of Kakamega Governor H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa.

The CECM together with his Chief Officer Ms. Leah Khasandi also received a donation of 46 computers from Energy Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) meant for the institution’s students to aid them in computer literacy and research.

Later on the team planted trees at Malava Girls and Boys Secondary Schools in the Sub-County and Mwiyala and Lurambi Primary Schools in Lurambi Sub-County. Shitaho County Polytechnic, Kakamega, St. Peter’s Mumias and Koyonzo Boys and Kakamega Primary Schools also hosted the team for the same exercise on the second day.
