COUNTIES TO SHUT DOWN ON 15TH MAY

Operations in all the 47 County Governments will shut down if the National Treasury fails to release funds to the devolved units by 15th of this month (May), 2023.

This was stated on Saturday by Kakamega Governor who is also the Chairperson of Finance, Planning and Economic Affairs Committee at the Council of Governors H.E. Hon. FCPA Fernandes Barasa during the funeral service of the slain Kisa East Member of County Assembly Hon. Stephen Maloba at Munjiti Primary School grounds in Khwisero Sub-County.

With reference to Ksh 65 billion owed to the Counties by the Central Government, Governor Barasa asked the National Treasury to honour the recent disbursement schedule agreed upon between the Treasury and the Council of Governors to allow Counties discharge their mandate; saying the monies are for the months of March, April and May.

The Governor who called for justice to the deceased also assured residents of the Ward that despite the death of their legislator, his administration will release Ksh 20 Million being development funds allocated to the Ward earmarked for enhancing services in the Energy, Water and Roads sectors.

All the 60 Wards will benefit from the Ward Fund kitty amounting to Ksh 240 Million for the County.

Various leaders paid their tributes to the MCA among them Siaya Governor H.E. James Orengo, Deputy Governor H.E. Ayub Savula, former Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, DAP Party Leader Hon. Engine Wamalwa, Roots Party Leader Prof. George Wajackoyah, UDA Secretary General Hon. Cleophas Malala, Kakamega MP Hon. Elsie Muhanda and MCAs led by the Speaker Rt. Hon. James Namatsi.
