GOVERNOR BARASA SIGNS THE 2023/24 FINANCIAL YEAR BUDGET

Kakamega Governor H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa has signed the 2023/24 Financial Year Budget making Kakamega the first County to ratify its spending plans for the next Financial Year.

In the Shs 17.68 Billion Budget that takes effect on July 1st, 36 percent of the funds will be directed to development expenditure surpassing the minimum 30 percent required Constitutionally while the remaining 64 percent will cater for recurrent expenses amounting to Shs 6.3 and 11.7 Billion respectively.

The Ministry of Health Services takes the lion’s share of the budget with the sector’s development agenda alone, largely on equipment, getting Shs 639 Million.

Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Barasa said the budget will largely be financed by equitable share but will also draw part of its funding from own source revenue, conditional grants and other sources.

Other sectors namely; Roads, Public Works and Energy received Sh1.3 Billion, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Co-operatives Sh1.2billion while Devolved Education has been allocated Sh481million. The Ministry of Social Services, Youths, Sports, Gender and Culture will receive Shs 761 Million.

Lands, Housing, Urban Development and Physical Planning gets Shs 514 Million while Public Service and County Administration will receive Shs 190million. Trade, Industrialization and Tourism on the other hand has been allocated Shs 440 Million.

Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate change has been allocated Shs 449.5 Million, Finance and Economic Planning Shs 152 Million and ICT, E-government and Communication Shs 145 Million.

Kakamega County has emerged as a pace setter among her peers after recently launching her County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) and the County Health Services Fund which are key milestones for Governor Barasa’s administration.

Deputy Governor H.E Ayub Savula commended the County Assembly for being among the first institution to pass the 2023/2024 Budget; and added that the Budget will facilitate provision of services as highlighted in the Governor’s Manifesto
