EDUCATION SUPPORT KITTY FOR KOYONZO PLAYERS LAUNCHED
The initiative by the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and Arts Hon. Ababu Namwamba to launch an Education Fund for rugby players who performed exemplary well in the East African Secondary Schools Rugby Sevens Games in Huye City, Rwanda on Saturday received a shot in the arm from Kakamega County Governor H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa who contributed Kshs 200,000 to the kitty.
The colourful event held at Koyonzo Boys Secondary School in Matungu Sub-County saw the Governor appreciate Hon. Namwamba for the efforts meant to motivate and inspire young athletes.
Koyonzo received the appreciation following a stellar performance during the 2023 Rugby Sevens school games campaign which saw them lift the Regional, National and East Africa titles.
The Governor highlighted that in addition to doubling the County Government’s Bursary from Kshs 2 Million to Ksh 4 Million this Financial Year, his administration will also create a special fund to assist the budding talents academically.
The event was also attended by Matungu MP Hon. Peter Nabulindo and County Executive Committee Member for Sports Mr Mophat Mandela among others.
