H.E. Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa today presided over the thrilling second edition of the Governorโs Bullfighting Extravaganza at Solyo Grounds in Isukha Central Ward, Shinyalu Constituency.
The vibrant cultural event brought together bulls and fans from Shinyalu, Lurambi, and Ikolomani constituencies, with the spotlight on a powerful bull named Governor, who emerged victorious over Scania in a record-breaking 25-minute match.
Governor Barasa used the occasion to unveil plans for a Bullfighting Premier League, set to feature top bulls from all 12 constituencies of Kakamega County. This strategic move aims not only to preserve and promote the regionโs rich cultural heritage but also to position bullfighting as a cornerstone of Kakamegaโs sports tourism economy.
โBullfighting is more than just tradition; itโs a driver of local enterprise, attracting visitors, creating jobs, and energizing our hospitality, transport, and entertainment sectors,โ said Governor Barasa.
The upcoming August Bullfighting Bonanza is expected to draw even larger crowds, boosting small businesses and solidifying Kakamega’s position as the bullfighting capital of Kenya.
The event was graced by Bullfighting President Ben Mululu, Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), and senior members of the County Executive Committee.
