Today, H.E. FCPA Fernandes Barasa, Governor of Kakamega County, presided over a high-level multi-sectoral planning meeting at Sarova Stanley Hotel, Nairobi, in preparation for the inaugural Western Region County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPs) Conference, set to take place between July and September this year in Kakamega County.

The landmark conference brings together the five Western Region countiesβ€”Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma, Vihiga, and Trans-Nzoiaβ€”under a shared vision to actualize the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) through industrialization, value addition, agro-processing, and job creation.

In his address, Governor Barasa emphasized the importance of collaboration between National and County Governments, alongside investors, to drive economic transformation in the region. He extended an open invitation to investors to seize the vast opportunities in Kakamega Countyβ€”Kenya’s green economic jewelβ€”for both sustainable livelihoods and strong returns on investment.

The counties agreed to leverage shared resources and institutional strengths to deliver a successful and impactful conference that will position Western Kenya as a hub for industrial growth and prosperity.

The planning meeting was graced by Chief Guest CS H.E. Lee Kinyanjui (Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry), Busia Governor H.E. Dr. Paul Otuoma, Kakamega Deputy Governor Hon. Ayub Savula, PSs Dr. Juma Mukhwana and Abubakar Hassan, KDC Chairman Hon. Sakwa Bunyasi, KDC Director General Norah Ratemo, One Acre Fund CEO John Clark, CECM Trade Godfrey Owori and CO Saxon Kweyu, KCIDA CEO Elizabeth Asichi, development partners, and several key investors.
