His Excellency Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa has welcomed the launch of the Taifa-Care Digital Health Program in the county, making it the first in the region to benefit from the national rollout. The program, unveiled today at Bukhungu Stadium by Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale, is expected to transform healthcare delivery through full digitization of services in all health facilities, including private and faith-based institutions.

In his address, Governor Barasa said the initiative fits well with his Six-Point Development Agenda, which prioritizes access to quality healthcare. The Governor noted that Kakamega has already received 497 digital tablets for health managers, with an additional 696 tablets and 450 desktop computers expected soon.

He explained that digitization will improve service delivery by safeguarding patient confidentiality through paperless data storage, enabling seamless tracking of patient history across facilities, strengthening financial management through streamlined revenue systems, and improving drug and non-pharmaceutical inventory management. He further urged residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA), warning that over one million people in the county risk missing out on affordable healthcare if they fail to enroll.

Governor Barasa also praised the strong partnership between his administration and the national government, citing the installation of a 128-slice CT scan machine at Kakamega County General Hospital and the ongoing construction of the Level Six Hospital as major gains in improving healthcare. While encouraging health workers to embrace technology, he emphasized that professionalism and compassion remain at the heart of patient care.

Also present were Deputy Governor Hon. Ayub Savula, PS for Health Services Dr. Ouma Oluga, SHA CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, Ag. CEO Digital Health Agency Eng. Antony Lenaiyara, MCAs, and other senior officials from both governments.
