FAO SUPPORTS KAKAMEGA COUNTY IN FINALIZING AGRICULTURE SECTOR SOCIAL PROTECTION POLICY

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) team, led by Social Protection Expert Ms. Winnie Mwasiaji, is supporting the County Government of Kakamega in finalizing the County Agriculture Sector Social Protection Policy.
A three-day technical workshop has been convened at the County Planning Unit, bringing together a multidisciplinary team drawn from county directors, sectional heads, project coordinators, and development partners.
The workshop, officially opened today by the Chief Officer for Agriculture and Irrigation, Mr. Emmanuel Kariuki, aims to harmonize inputs, validate key components, and conclude the drafting process of the policy , a milestone initiative towards building a resilient, inclusive, and food-secure agricultural sector for Kakamega County.
While addressing the participants, Mr. Kariuki urged them to remain focused and collaborative, emphasizing that โ€œthis policy will be a game-changer in strengthening social protection mechanisms within our agricultural systems, ensuring no farmer is left behind.โ€ He noted that the initiative aligns with Governor Fernandes Barasaโ€™s manifesto on enhancing agricultural productivity and promoting sustainable livelihoods across the county.
