KAKAMEGA HIGH CROWNED SUPER 8 CHAMPIONS
Kakamega High today clinched the Annual Super 8 Soccer Tournament β Kakamega Edition title, after a hard-fought 1β0 victory over St. Antony Kitale in the final played at Bukhungu Stadium.
The champions had earlier defeated Butere 2β0 in the semifinals, while St. Antony Kitale advanced after a 2β0 win against Shanderema. Butere secured third place with a narrow 1β0 victory over Shanderema. Other participating teams included Highway Nairobi, St. Maryβs Yala, Kisumu Day and Kirangari Boys.
Addressing the participants at the award ceremony on behalf of H.E the Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, County Secretary and Head of Public Service Dr. Lawrence Omuhaka, accompanied by Chief Officers led by Lawrence Mukoyani of Sports, described Kakamega as a stronghold of football talent and reaffirmed the countyβs focus on nurturing youth potential through sports.
Dr. Omuhaka reiterated that youth empowerment remains central to the Governor’s social-economic empowerment agenda.
The next edition of the tournament will feature an additional eight teams. Individual accolades saw Chris Geogian of Kakamega High named Best Goalkeeper, while Clinton Wanjala and Travour Nasasiro, both from St. Antony Kitale, awarded Top Scorer, and Most Valuable Player respectively.
