SAVONA REHABILITATION BOOSTS “AMATSI KHUMULIANGO” DRIVE IN KAKAMEGA

The ongoing rehabilitation of the Savona Water Treatment Plant in Milimani marks a decisive intervention in addressing persistent water shortages in Kakamega Town and its environs.
Currently, the town faces a daily water deficit of approximately 8,000 cubic metres, a gap that has triggered frequent rationing and disrupted households, institutions, and businesses. Upon completion, the upgraded plant is projected to inject an additional 6,000 cubic metres of treated water per day into the supply network, substantially narrowing the deficit and stabilizing distribution.
The modernization works are in line with Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa’s clarion call, “Amatsi Khumuliango”, a rallying commitment to ensure water flows consistently to homes, schools, health facilities, and enterprises across the county. Beyond infrastructure rehabilitation, the project enhances treatment efficiency, expands production capacity, and strengthens system reliability to meet the growing demands of an expanding urban population.
By cushioning residents from chronic shortages, the rehabilitation is expected to reduce rationing cycles, improve water pressure, and restore predictability in supply. Reliable water access remains a cornerstone of public health, urban growth, and wealth creation, making this upgrade a strategic investment in sustainable development and improved service delivery within Kakamega Municipality.
